Its a good idea. The N64 had expandable memory & it worked by allowing extra features & a graphical upgrade to expansion owners but wasn't compulsory to play the game.

No they don't need a new console but they need to announce more big games. We got bombarded with great exclusives last xmas but now theres only Conduit 2 & Zelda (hopefully The Last Story too) to look forward to. Too much 3ds focus at the moment.
